(As a preface to this post, I will start by apologizing for not keeping with replying to all of the interesting questions and comments posted. Especially with the recent activity around the Origami project, I’m usually not done with work until very late at night or early morning. While I haven’t had enough time to keep up with answering questions I really do appreciate the posts and look forward to reading them.)
To make a long story short, the "Haiku" concept model I finally had built generated a ton of interest.
The front portion of the display area was a piece of acrylic that was removable, and I made a number of screen shots of various scenarios to help convey what the experience would be with a real product. This was Bill’s suggestion, and it really helped people imagine the possibilities in a much more tangible and concrete way. The result was so realistic that many people first through that the pictures of the concept model with the screen shots was a working product. If only!
Keeping track of the model was next to impossible – it would fly out of my office as soon as it got back from its latest round of demos. We finally had more of the models produced to keep up with the demand and interest. The concept had clearly captured peoples’ imagination.
The question everyone asked of course was when something like the “Haiku” concept would be available. The short answer was not any time soon.
That answer of course begged the question: What could be built today that was along the lines of the “Haiku” concept, but used available technology?
