I've seen the video and  I cant wait till it comes. Alas still waiting and stockpiling software that i could use with it ;) I have a sling box setup at home, and will soon be purchasing an i-blue bluetooth gps reciever by the end of the year.  Im trying to decide if i want to install the Microsoft Experience Pack or the Education Pack. Decisions! Decisions!

Of course for now, i can't install anything hahaha.   I'll keep you updated.

I guess the Intel driver fixes are taking longer than expected.  Not too surprising.

I discovered I had to do this to get proper calibration.  Still, if I calibrate with it turned off, my linearization curves are waaaay off and I have to lie about where the cursor is on the right edge of the screen.  I think it's a hardware problem.  When they get around to swapping it out (for my touchstyk problem), we'll see how different the replacment is.

Re: TabletKiosk eo i72xx shipping status

Yeah.  I just pulled the black OE cap off. the stick and am using it fine that way.  I contemplated keeping it as is until I had calibration issues.

FYI, I wrote up the issue on my site here and included a picture of the stick alignment problem.

Just curious. Does your SMM panel weather a hibernate/resume cycle?  Or do you have to kill and restart it manually?  See here for details.

Re: TabletKiosk eo i72xx shipping status

Mine showed up a day early. All seems to be working fine. I'm walking around the shop showing it off while downloading new windows updates.
Awsome little machine. Gets a little warm but not near as much as my Gateway. And the fan is not to noticable.
All in all so far very happy with it. Very easy to read at 800 x 480. 1024x768 is a wee bit small.
Now i need that bluetooth gps. Wish my Samsung 990 evdo phones bluetooth wasn't disabled by verizon. Would be a perfect portable internet option.
Havent tried the smm hibernate/resume cycle yet.

Re: TabletKiosk eo i72xx shipping status

Hey there ree, i am thinking about buying a UMPC (please forgive me if my question sound stupid, i have a very limited knowledge about computers) and I wanted to know something about the GPS, from what i have learnt, the Tabletkiosk 7210 doesn't have the built-in GPS.You mentioned using the HoluxGPSlim 236 bt receiver, what exactly is that? what size is it and how convenient is it to connect to the actual unit? Please let me know.Thanking you in anticipation.

    :)

Re: TabletKiosk eo i72xx shipping status

Correct, the i7210 does not have it's own GPS.

The Holux GPSlim 236 is just a small GPS receiver (about the size of a medium-sized numeric pager) that can communicate with the PC over bluetooth.  Read about it in this review: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/gr236.php

You can buy one off of ebay for $65-100.

It is very easy to setup.  On the i7210, there's a bluetooth manager called Blue Soleil.  It sets up virtual serial ports and personal area network addresses for bluetooth devices.  If you make sure the bluetooth radio is on on the i7210 and turn on the Holux GPS receiver, then Blue Soleil will automatically detect it as a new device (See capture):

If you right click it, you can connect to it, then BlueSoleil will assign a virtual COM port to that device.  In my case it picked COM4.

Next you right click and select "Pair."  You will be prompted to enter a security code.  The default is 0000 for this device new.  From that point on, whenever any app opens COM4, BlueSoleil initiates a connection with the GPS receiver and it looks as if it's connected over a normal serial port.

Therefore, any app that can speak to a generic GPS that talks NMEA version 2.3 protocol can use this receiver.

Why did I pick this receiver?  Primarily because it has the SiRF III chipset in it which is well know for fast cold start satellite acquisition times and good tracking capabilities in cover such as forest and urban areas with hi-rise buildings.  Other  niceties are,
    • low cost
    • communicates with PC without wires
    • rechargeable non-proprietary battery that lasts ~8-10 hours and can be charged directy from USB port with an A-to-mini-B cable
So far I've been very happy with it.
