I'm looking forward to it too! I think this is the first public thread about the R2HV.

It will be very interesting to see if ASUS have removed all the crapware that they put on the Xp version of the R2H.

Re: Has anyone bought the R2Hv?

I got it last night along with the usb folding keyboard, I didn't get much play time my daughter had some friends over for the night so I just charged the batteries.

After the initial setup (about 3 this morning) everything as going well until Vista struck! Nothing wrong with the OS it ran smooth it as driver issues first with my U3 drive then the modem link software for my phone. I'll have to check for new drivers tonight.

On the bright side both batteries have built-in kick stands and there appears to be an external GPS antenna but I can't find any info on it.

Also is included Streets and Trips 2007, it wasn't pre installed wish I had ordered the external drive now. Oh well I'll have to use a network drive (that will be slow).

Keep in mind I have never used Vista, tablet, or an UMPC before. Any suggestions are welcome.

Since you can't compare screen brightness between the new model and the old, I'll just ask if the screen is viewable outside.  I haven't seen any info saying Asus changed the screen, but a common complaint I've seen with the original R2H is that the screen isn't very bright and doesn't work well outdoors. (Was that redundant enough for everyone?)

    Thanks for being first!

In regards to screen brightness if your going outside....find a shade tree. As far as my WiFi connection if seems to be working pretty well, I'm using it now to write this post.

Re: R2HV - Vista Optimization tips.

I got a driver for my phone and am now connected at work (yep gotta work Saturday also).

One problem I'm having is getting the stylus and the curser to line up anything I tap is about an inch off from where the stylus is located. It seems to work when I try game but not with menus, icons, or inking. Any ideas?

I hope to get a network drive setup so I can start installing programs sometime this weekend.

You need to calibrate for every resolution. I have no problems with my R2H calibration.

I'm not sure what happened but after resetting the screen res. the inking is working great!. I hope this weekend I can get the GPS working.

The more I use it the more I like it, it's just going to be a learning process.

    Have a great weekend!

    Re: R2HV -

Here's an update on what I have done so far.

Setup workgroup network to install programs using my desktop

    Installed Ms Money 2006

    Installed Open Office

I tried to use the Netlink cable but didn't have any luck, I got the drivers installed and the IP address entered but the R2H wouldn't recognize the device.

I still haven't got Streets and Trips installed I started but quit it could be a long process due to the size. I may have to break down and purchase an external drive yet.

So far I have had no problems connecting to my wireless network as some mentioned with the previous R2H. I may stop by one of the free local hotspots tonight and see how that goes.

Update: I'm sitting at a open hotspot and am having no connection problems.

There are about 70 processes running on startup, although it doesn't seem to effect performance in my opinion. I would like to improve boot time currently about 1 min. 45 sec.

I just got mine an Hour ago, Found this thread, but the thread ends in May, is there any more information on your experiences anywhere else?

    Re: R2HV -

My last post was just a couple of days ago, I received mine last Thursday. I seems to be working well, I do have a few issues with the touch screen on startup.

I installed Streets & Trips 2007 last night and the GPS located my position very quickly. I'm still learning about Vista and UMPC's and so far I'm happy with the device.

If you just click on a post during a search I think it only shows that post, at the bottom there should be a link to view the entire thread. If I have a thread I want to watch I'll just add it to my RRS reader.

    Re: R2HV -

How are you on battery life? Does it get more then two hours?
  •  06-20-2007, 6:55 PM 22531 in reply to 22479

Re: Has anyone bought the R2Hv?

2 hrs. of battery life is no problem, the 4 cell should get you close to 4 hrs. depending on what profile you are using. I haven't been able to put it to a good test but at 77% full brightness, power and tethered to my phone for internet mine showed over 3 hrs. left.
