Thanks for that positive, useful post, Noger. Since I'm being called a liar, and I had a few minutes here at work (with a better digital camera), here's the retort for those of you looking for actual help.
(Disclaimer: please ignore the sarcasm if you're looking for help. It's been a long day at work.)
Here's the first picture:
Rear Camera 1This the rear view of the system. You'll notice a ribbon connector (oh my god!) running from the back of the board around to the front. I even circled it for the slower among us. You'll note the battery connectors on the right for reference.
Next pic:
Rear Camera 2This a view from the top. Note the headphone jack and top USB port. You'll see something that looks suspiciously like a ribbon cable (hmmm. . .) that is disconnected from a PCB (this is actually part of the LCD assembly).
Last pic:
Rear Camera 3And, for the coup de grace, you'll see there's a socket on the PCB that would appear to take the ribbon cable that (oddly enough) runs from the rear camera to the front. I made sure this was reseated before closing the case up again. When the system came up, the rear camera was working fine.
I (again) hope this helps those of you having the rear camera problem.
