    Re: asus?

    Zhubajie,

I received my R2H from Mycom last Friday (as well?).

Indeed it's slow and definitely need tweaking (killing Symantec security and other stuff). Couple of things I've noticed

    1. Pen calibration tool - I cannot find any tool that will do this. Consequentley to pen does not match the mouse pointer arrow so I want to calibrate it.....Have you found anything
    2. On the bix cardboard box the description says: On board 256MB, DDR2 667MHz up to 1280MB. Allthough the device is using 512MB using its S0-Dimm slot, I think we can replace it with a 1GB S0-Dimm.

    ctitanic,

Arrow left is access to the memory bank, which holds a 256MB S0-Dimm (totals 512MB), arrow right under the MS license info is for the battery connector.

Can show you a picture of the actual memory, if and when I've figured out how to add the picture into the message (first post)

Thanks for the info.  To post pictures use flickr .

    Re: asus?

ohoo - if you can get it in the netherlands, switzerland might not be that far off. From your experience sofar - are the 2h battery life on the dutch website correct? What is your guestimate?

Very torn between the asus (features) and the Q1B from samsung.

    Re: asus?

The 2 hours battery life are correct, but I have not played with the different battery life saving schemes muchs. I tend to set it to the fastest anyway, otherwise the mouse pointer gets a little "jumpy".

This week I'll expect more time to (finally) play with the device

    Re: asus?

    Monmatre,

I expect the R2H to come in (two?) different flavours, one package with foldable keyboard and another one with bluetooth plus webcam, although I'm not sure.

Although mine came without Webcam and bluetooth, the actual device has a Bluetooth led and symbol, and also the box for packaging says bluetooth in specs writing. The webcam is shown on the pictures of the packaging, but is not mentioned anywhere in writing on the box. This is something I definitely need the follow up with the supplier (MyCom) and Asus.

I guess Asus was eager to send out this shipment, but made some last minute changes.

I agree that without bluetooth, its going to lose a lot of appeal for me.
Your question about the screen size is also a good one as there had been rumors about 1024x768.

German version won't be anounced until later this month so it's very confusing as to why NL should get  this model.

    Re: asus?

    Hi Henry,

    1. It should be but I didn't find out how yet (haven't looked for it yet).

    2. Yes, I have it working on 1024x600 now (that's the maximum you can get). You must use the Setup button on the right and not the Windows display properties screen. This works quick and nice.

3.No it isn't. I did some writing today and it works great. I removed the DialKeys program from my startup group. It takes too much memory and I have to push to hard on the keyboard. I fear I damage the screen if I use it and there's no key to enable it anyway.

    4. Now everything is installed and working as it should be I don't experience it as being very slow. Starting of some applications takes a little time but working with them is no problem at all.

The fingerprint sensor is nice. Now I don't have to type my password anymore to log on to windows.

The Microsoft AutoRoute software for the GPS does the job but doesn't work like a TomTom etc. You have to do much more before it plans your route.  I am goig to try to get ViaMichelin Mapsonig Navigation Europe (and hope that it works because FreeDrive and GaroNav don't).

I hope you are able to get one soon,

    Marcel

Also in one of the pictures can be seen a compartment that probably could give access to memory banks or mini PCI slot.

    What's

    It's the WiFi card.

    ...feel rather stupid mode...

Thanks, that worked. I've looked under control panel multiple times and not noticing the obvious applet...

I've opened that one. It's access to the S0-Dimm module/slot, occupied by 256MB memory. I'm thinking to tryout swapping it with 512MB or even 1GB memory (as the packaging on one side says total of 1280MB..)

Edited: Added picture of the S0-Dimm as part of the MyCom package.

    Marcel:

I have viamichelin mapsonic and it´s ok.only problem is that it does not have integrated keyboard. so you have to use tablet pc keyboard which is too small for typing while driving.

Remember that viamichelin 4 and newer does not support pc navigation anymore, you have to have mapsonic 3...

    Re: asus?

    Marcel,

Thanks so far for your answers.

The salesman said that they will get more units monday next week and that they are going to use one unit as a demonstration unit. I can wait until then, or order one via their web-shop.
Still have a few questions though.

    1)
Maybe my question was not clear enough, but i am not sure i understand your answer on question 3.
Do you mean that it is very good possible to use the stylus to write on the screen?
I hope so, because i want to try handwriting recognition software from PhatWare to translate the written ink into DUTCH text. That is not possible with the Tablet XP 2005 edition.
    2)
With the higher resolution setting you can see more, but smaller, on the screen? Or is it a kind of virtual window so you must scroll more.
    3)
Would still appreciate it if you could find the rotation function.
    4)
How is youre over all experience? Does the device meet your expectations, are you satisfied? Would you still buy it?

    Thanks again.

    Kind Regards,
    Henri
