Yeah I know/ thought it was smaller than 10 Gigs. But didn't someone just say it was 10 gigs?

I believe the one mentioned earlier as being 2.44GB is the AVS partition.

Anybody figure out how to reprogram the AVSNow button to do another function? It would be cool to push the button and have it load another partition with Ubuntu or other OS....

I'd be happy to just open a program with it, like onenote or journal or something.

    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

Robperri thats a good idea. I have asked this before, but does anyone know or think they know what happens when the button is pushed? I mean in depth (like does it search for a specially formatted drive or something) :)

    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

When the button is pushed it simply opens a file called AVSNow.exe; which is located in C:\Program Files\Samsung\AVStation Now.

I experimented by taking the Skype executable file, putting it in that specific directory and renaming the file to AVSNow (make sure to backup, move, or rename original). Now when I press the button it opens Skype.  It's a start!

I also tried renaming a shortcut and putting it in the directory and it didn't work.  It's obviously looking for an executable file.

Now thats a nice idea, what other executable files can be used as a shortcut?

    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

    Mikey,

Using the Renaming system he just mentioned, you should be able to get any EXE program to run using that button, as long as it is a stand-alone EXE file, or if the files it needs to run are also copied to the same directory.

I just tried it for Skype myself and it worked great.

Thanks for the tip on this one!

I'm a very old dog in this world and I can tell your for sure what I already explained, that document is for all Q1U including the Q1U XP.  that feature will be present (probably) in the Q1U XP,  and that's a Q1U so  they are just omitting some details in their advertisements.  Something that's normal in these cases.

Nope. I'll settle this: I have a Q1U XP, and it doesn't work on my unit, either. I've tried. And yes, I've fully shut down windows without hibernating. Same thing--it boots full windows and loads AVSNow.

    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

So, having worked out there's no "instant on" magic AV mode for the Q1U (kinda annoying if it was a lower battery using iPod replacement for long plane rides) I decided it would be more useful mapping the button for me to use with the Origami Now application.

Quick hunt through the registry (all the caveats apply if you're going to do this) and you can edit this key

    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\MobilePC\HotStartButtons\1

to point to any executable you need...

Not sure what the \2, \3, \4 and \5 options were for... I suspect with AVStation they let you start in different modes, but I don't know any command line parameters for OC to check it out with ;)

Now just got to work out a risk free, cost free way to get rid of that recovery partition so I can re-use the disk space ;)
