    IE7 in Q1

James at JKonTheRun has published an article about IE7 being used in a UMPC.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I probably will install later today IE7 - I'm currently using FireFox where I can do mostly everything that James mentioned. It's true that few pages do not work well in FireFox but my tests of previous release of IE7 were not so good too so I'm not that excited with IE7.

    Re: IE7 in Q1

After reading the post on JKOTR I loaded IE7. It does work great. However, I've noticed one bit of odd behavior with my Samsung Q1.  If I try to post a comment in a message form on a website (like this one) using the ink screen on the TIP, the text doesn't transfer to the message form when I tap "insert".  I have to use the onscreen keyboard to enter text with the stylus. I welcome suggestions on how to fix this.

It seems to work fine here. This reply was handwritten with the TIP.

    Cheers

hmm... the regular TIP worked once but then stopped. It worked just fine using IE6.

    Re: IE7 in Q1

I have an i7210.  It seems to be working fine whether I invoke the TIP from the taskbar, or use the floating TIP (I am using floattip.exe).

Handwritting using the TIP and IE7 is also not working for me on my Q1 Pentium. I also had to use the TIP keyboard.

    Re: IE7 in Q1

I tried removing float tip but this didn't make a difference. Looks like back to IE6 on the Q1.  ;(

Seens to work OK in the toolbar text boxes but not in the Reply text box.

    Handwriting doesn't work w/ q1b either.

it worked for 1 sentence, then not anymore  :-(

    Re: IE7 in Q1

Sadly, I went back to IE6 and, of course, it works perfectly again. So, it is definitely IE7 that is somehow breaking it.  The floattip box still pops up but when you enter text in the handrwiting window and hit "insert" nothing inserts.  I tried loading Firefox 2.0 and had even less luck with floattip.  I couldn't even get the TIP box to pop up.

In firefox you have to install an addon that can be downloaded in the same firefox page.

    Re: IE7 in Q1

The specific Firefox extension is called GeckoTip.  It is compatible with Firefox 2.0 and it also works to provide TIP compatibility for Thunderbird as well.

    Re: IE7 in Q1

Oddly, I used IE7 beta and IE7 cr and did not have this problem. I thought the issue was caused by the new release of office 2007 that I am using.

    Re: IE7 in Q1

Thanks for reporting this. I've asked some people inside of MS who own the Tablet Input Panel to look into what's going on. I'll post back once I have more information.

    thanks,
    Dustin
