    medion umpc pre-order

The Americans can preorder the medion umpc at medionusa.com:

Due to overwhelming demand the MEDION UMPC is currently out of stock. To ensure you don't miss out, place your pre-order on (866) 633-4660

It doesn't mention the GPS or docking station..

Can somebody from the USA call this number and find out some more specs and price? It is not appearing on the German or Dutch medion sites yet...

    Re: medion umpc pre-order

I called them but looks like they don't have any more information than what the website says. He even mentioned that the US suppot center will be moved to UK in another 4 days and they might have more details there, so asked me to call after 4 days.

As for the GPS and Docking station -- no news yet.

I also posted the details here

I'm relatively unfamiliar with Medion. What's the reputation for their products?

    Re: medion umpc pre-order

I have one of their PCs and its been fine.

If I recall right this isn't actually manufactured by medion, its just been badged. I think it comes from a notebook manufacturer in the far east, I forget the name

This is  coming from  Arima a big smartphone manufacturer.
Medion have a  good reputation for value for money.
Nice to $1000 in the US becuase, as medion is a  German company, the Europrice is likely to be  at the Euro 800 mark that was predicted.

    Re: medion umpc pre-order

800 Mark would be nice, that would be not even 400 Euro €...You mean 800 € I bet :-).

By the way, the quality of medion not really the best. They use a lot of different bare bones. As long as they use Arima stuff (see the MD95500) I have a good experience with Medion.

    Re: medion umpc pre-order

it appeared in the German medion shop (sorry for the long link, but it is a deaplink):

    https://www.medionshop.de/?areaID=40909DA5DDF93786E10000000A00004A&productID=40909DA5DDF93786E10000000A00004A45B47FA2649D1C83E10000000A00005C&partnerID=100625574

Price is 999 euro including 19% VAT. Docking station is uncluded, no mention of the GPS.

    Re: medion umpc pre-order

In the meantime the docking station is removed from the specifications. This device become's less interesting by the day:

    + led backlighting
    + slide out keyboard
    + 4-5 hours battery life
    + vista

    - price
    - no gps
    - no docking station
    - slow via processor ?

If the price were to come down than the lack of gps and docking is compensated, but the performance problems seen with the via processor and video playback is worrying. I guess that is driver related...

    Re: medion umpc pre-order

Based on a shopping cart entry, the RIM 1000 countdown may have begun again on Medion.de.  It has been saying ">20 days"; now it says "ca. 20 days"  I emailed MedionUSA this past week and was told that the "mid-April " shipping date was still their official line, but they couldn't give me a SPECIFIC date.  Strange.
