I got it with no problems.  Here's a quick "live post" I made about my first impressions of the Origami Experience.

    Re: Origami Experience™ download link?

For those of us eager to dive into this, is there an online um...wiki-ish sort of how-to or walkthru or list of links for the drivers presently available that seem to work best?

How could we run it on xp?

It's made for Vista...  and works only in umpcs, i tested it with my Vista desktop  --->

"Origami Experience runs only on Ultra-Mobile PCs running Vista."

    JKK,

If you running the same versions of Vista, how could it tell it's a UMPC?

We check to make sure the hardware is a UMPC.

    Re: Origami Experience™ download link?

    I like it.. but..

The hardware volume buttons on the Q1 control the OX's application volume and not the master volume.  Not that big of deal but may take a few steps just to get started up to play music.

It doesn't show urge.com playlists.  It shows playlists that contain files that point to a physical path..  I may just have to create two playlists or just stick with the brilliant black skin.

It takes around 5 seconds to get the playlist view up.  Maybe everytime it's switched to that screen, it scans the folder for valid playlists each time.  I have around 20+ playlists (most which are filtered out. See above) so it takes a noticable time.

Ok, i just posted my secondary opinion of the OE.

I certainly hope that the results that ThoughtFix and I are finding are not universal to VIA machines.  Needing 1GB in a UMPC to play an UMPC is absurd!  Origami Team any help or guidance is very much welcome.  And if Samsung or VIA read these boards, we desperately need drivers!

    Re: Origami Experience™ download link?

    Totally agree Matt.
There's only one UMPC that this software runs on at the moment. All the others are either under spec or not able to run Vista.
I know the sit. will get better but only for those buying new PCs. Early adopters suffer :-(

I notice the Medion UMPC won't ship with DVB-T module. Thats another media minus point for VIA.

    Re: Origami Experience™ download link?

Thanks to everyone for being patient yesterday and then jumping on the download as soon as it became available. There is a common theme in the early comments, yes, 512MB RAM on a Windows Vista UMPC is not an optimal experience. We did a lot of performance tweaks during development and really tried to squeeze out what we could, in fact at one point we stopped feature development and just concentrated on performance for two weeks.

We expect new Windows Vista UMPCs to come with 1GB RAM (or at least have it as an option). I have a Q1b as my personal machine and with 1GB response times are quite good. My personal experience is that the RAM makes a bigger difference than CPU.

Also, our testing showed that hard drive activity can have a big impact on responsiveness. I generally turn off the search indexer on my UMPC. I love it on my desktop but it just overwhelms my Q1 when it kicks in.

Keep the reviews and feedback coming!

    Re: Origami Experience™ download link?

Jeremy,  maybe this is a question for another blog post but I think those of us trying to run Vista on a UMPC would benefit if you could possibly put out a post that outlines any settings those of you on the Origami Project team have used to optimize your Vista/UMPC Experience.

    Thanks!

I agree with you Matt, I was about to ask the same.
