Where to source a PCI Express Mini WWAM cellular modem card from?

I have done some searching and have been unable to find a source to purchase a PCI express mini cellular modem card from. Does anyone have a good source? I am looking for a Novatel Expedite® EU860D 3.6 Mbps PCI Express Mini Card Embedded Module

    or the

Expedite® E725 3.1 Mbps PCI Express Mini Card Embedded Module

The goal is to try to hack together a solution to get WWAN capability in my Samsung Q1 Ultra-V

Re: Where to source a PCI Express Mini WWAM cellular modem card from?

I did some research for MiniPCI cards and found this .

"This will not be a problem. However, I would not get the Dell branded card, or the Rev A card you mention.
Go to a sprint store and buy a U720. The U720 is nothing more than a Mini-PCI card inside a USB enclosure.
Install the U720 software, and Connection Manager, then
You can open the U720, and remove the PCI-Card, and insert it in the Mini-PCI adapter on the laptop.
You will need to use the Sprint Connection Manager to manage the connection.
The U720 is Rev A, and works great.
I replaced the Rev O card in my Dell D420 with a U720's card, and now I have Rev A, and GPS built in-to my laptop, what could be better?
( If you need help, just let me know. The only thing you will need is a special screw driver to open the U720, I just took the U720 to Home Depot, and they found me a $0.98 screw driver that worked perfectly. "

So it sounds like there is a possibility of adding the internal EVDO card as long as there is a way to wire up an antenna. This is something I can probably borrow off of a broken dell laptop that I have.

Sounds like I have another modding project to look forward to.

The major hurdle is going to be sourcing the correct antenna for the Q1U. Ideas??

If you go to the link and scroll down the forum you will see a U720's disassembled. From there you can see the antena leads and connections. My point of view, its similar to the same type of antenna connections on a MiniPCI Wireless board inside any laptop.
I have a broken dell laptop with the antenna wires that lead to two small PCB's. I can unscrew them and remove it from the Dell and then the dificulty would be in finding a place inside the Q1U to reattach it without distrubing anything else.

If you look at the top of the Q1u on the right side, you'll notice a rubber stopper. Supposedly, that would have been where the antenna should have been if these Q1Us were the Q1u-CMV

Actually I think thats for the Eurpeon models. The Q1U is supposed to have a tv reciever built in.

Korean version has DMB-T (digital television) built in. It's very widely used in Asia and Europe and is roughtly comparable to our ATSC (broadcast HD Digitial TV, which so far is flopping big time).

Unfortunately, as far as I know - the DMB-T tuner is not included in the European models. Just in the Korean/Asian ones.

I did install the card, (595U) restarted and got a blank screen. No POST, nothing. I removed the card and it started fine. I reinstalled it and the same issue. Removed and laptop started fine. Any ideas?

Maybe the BIOS is some how blocking it?

Re: Where to source a PCI Express Mini WWAM cellular modem card from?

I am very tempted to go to my local Sprint retail store and carefully open up a U720 EVDO modem and try it inside my Q1U to see if it boots up and works with the U720 software. If it is properly recognized in Vista, I plan on simply using the internals of the U720 antenna assembly and finding an open space to place the antenna. I do not believe the plastic casing on the Q1U will attenuate the wireless signal enough to make too much of a difference.

I would much rather opt for an HSDPA solution so that I can use it internationally, but by the time coverage is up to par with Sprint's EVDO network in the US, I would have already upgraded my UMPC a few times.

Now, the most important question here is whether I can open up the U720 without damaging it or breaking any stickers that void the warranty making the product non-returnable just in case the BIOS in the Q1U is indeed locked. The previous poster has made it almost very clear that it is indeed locked. I am always hoping as the BT connection to my phone is the bottleneck of my current WWAN connection.

    Cheers.

Has anyone actually trued putting the card from a u720 into a Q1U? If so, how did it work out? Thanks.

Re: Where to source a PCI Express Mini WWAM cellular modem card from?

What is being used inside the Q1b as far as the HSDPA modem and antenna, anyone know if you can find that modem somewhere by itself?

Are there any pictures of the insides of a Q1b showing the modem and antenna anywhere?

OK, I'm trying to put a Sierra Wireless MC8775 HSPDA Mini PCI Express card into my Q1u and it's not recognizing it.

I can't find anything in the BIOS that allows you turn the express slot on or off, could it be that I'll need to update the BIOS once the version is out with the built-in WWAN?

I'm hoping maybe I have a defective unit.  I'll try removing it, uninstalling the drivers, reboot, re-install the drivers then re-install the pci-e card and see if that works.

Chippy (hes) a member here, he had/has the same problems getting one into a Everun, he got the card to be recognised but it slowed the device down to unusable
