I think that probably the instant on will be available in machines with XP. Taking in consideration that with Vista that partition does not work or work but very unstable.

Hum... sounds to me that what you got guys is a quick lunch button. Or in another words a hot key button pointing to AVStation button. Just look, they are not calling it any more AVSNow, they are calling AVStation Now Program. So that answer all your questions. There is not any Instant On partition or AVSNow partition in the Q1U.

Man, I would love for my Q1U to have a quick lunch button. Push the button and out pops a delicious sandwich and some chips. Now that would be a feature I'd pay extra for.

oops! I would like to have that too. If the Q1U comes with that I would be the first buying one. I will forget even about the A110 processor. Big Smile [:D]

On a serious note, I keep meaning to play with the AV button. Will do that tonight when I get home and see what happens. If anyone ever does build something with a quick lunch button I will be second in line behind you ctitanic. I might even have to camp out like all the iPhone iLosers.

Better not let gakker from the Off-Topic section hear you talking like that.  He might beat you up : )

Way off topic...wasn't stating anyone who wants or uses an iPhone to be an iLoser, but I definitely wouldn't wait in line for one.

I re-installed the AVS software and it just re-installs the Vista version. There are two programs, the actual AVS software which does all the playing, and then the front-end menu. There are only two partitions on the Q1U, the main Vista one, and the backup one. Looks like they decided against implementing the original AVSNow version.

Was there an option to install only the 'AVSNow' software, and not the other full Windows one (ie. 'Play AVStation')? The 'AVSNow' software should be the one that turns on instantly upon pressing the AVS button, not the other one.

I spent quite a few hours looking it over there before I bought my Q1U.   Here is what it says:

"Using AVStation Now, you can easily and quickly play music, photographs, movies and DVDs when the computer is on/off.

When the computer is on or off, press the AV button (AV). The AVStation Now program is launched."

The manual says that AVSNow can be launched when the computer is on OR OFF. Since the AVSNow software is supposed to launch even when the computer is 'OFF', this clearly suggests that the Q1 Ultra does indeed have the 'instant-on' feature with the AVS button. This means that something is going wrong with the actual models of the Q1 Ultra, but the feature is supposed to be there.

I read somewhere that the Q1U came with AVSNow that allows you to play media files without booting into Vista. When I press the AV button on the side it just boots Vista and then runs the Windows version of AVS. Do I take it that only the original Q1 came with AVSNow?

Since it goes into the Windows version of AVS software instead of launching the AVSNow software, perhaps it's a matter of changing some sort of setting on the computer? ie. maybe it's possible to change the setting of the AVS button so that you can choose whether you want it to load the Windows version or the AVSNow version?

It definetly suggests that it should have instant on capabilities, but I just meant to illustrate that it doesn't say for sure.  It could just mean it will start the computer and launch the program with one push of a button.  Plus, Samsung's literature hasn't always lived up to reality (look at devwild's experiences with his EL).

well, the wording in the manual actually says that it's possible to 'PLAY movies, photographs, music etc.'  WHEN the computer is switched 'off'. I can't see how else it would be able to actually PLAY these while being switched off (ie. out of Windows), unless it has an instant-on feature. If the manual is referring to the loading of AVS software through Windows start-up, then the wording in the manual would be wrong, because the computer would be switched ON when playing movies, photographs, music, etc not off, like it says.

    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

With the computer off and pushing the AV button, my Q1U loads Vista and immediately goes into AVStation. Seems to be a pretty useless feature as it is currently implemented, imo.

The problem is that it is loading into the wrong software; it is loading the 'Play AVStation' which is a Windows software, whereas it should be launching instantly into AVS-Now.

Because you are booting into Vista!
Do you have a partition like this?
