OMG, it's taking forever to load the XML. The B64 encoding balloons the length by like 10 times more than it should be. I may make a seperate app just to load/unencode the XML for OXP to import, that way OXP isn't tied up for an hour.

Or *gasp* I might be forced to use MS's XML object.

Re: Would anyone be interested in an Origami Experience clone for XP?

I'm pretty impressed with your progress.  But I have some issues more things I'd love to see:

Does it really monitor the folders specified in the settings?  I've specified folders to monitor and it never finds the media that's there.  It will only add media I manually open by navigating through the folder trees.

Also, is there an up-folder button?  Or amy I missing it?  If I drill down into some sub-sub folders, I can't back up a level and have to go back to the top and renavigate down.

Lastly, I've got a lot of video content I've been encoding in mp4 format for good quality at low file sizes.  I can make WMP 11 play it because I have ffdshow installed to do h.264 decoding and the Matroska Splitter to break up the mp4 container into something WMP can process .  WMP does not think mp4 files are video, but if I open it from explorer or drag it into WMP, it plays it just fine. The Zune player variant of WMP does recognize mp4 videos but has a lot of other shortcomings.  XPerience will show mp4 files but when I play then, the media player just sits there.  I assume this has to do with your using the 6.4 WMP player and not the WMP 10 or later.  Is there any chance this could change?

Lastly, can you make it so that when you start it, it resumes exactly wher eyou left it?  i.e. if you were in Now Playing listening to something, it'll open there and resume the play list from the point in the track that it was at when it exited?  Non trivial, I know, but it would make it something I might consider using for in car use then.

    Thanks.

Re: Would anyone be interested in an Origami Experience clone for XP?

I do not monitor folders in the way windows media player does, as it (the delay in finding files) bugs the hell out of me. It adds files when it encounters them while you browse.

There is an up folder button. When browsing folders, it's the first folder in the list, it's labelled ".."

I'm not sure if I could use WMP10, I tried and it's a convoluted mess.

Yes I can make it keep track of which track you were playing, and where you were in it last time. I've been meaning to do it but keep forgetting

Re: Would anyone be interested in an Origami Experience clone for XP?

I just remembered, I can't use WMP10 cause I tried it, and it just being on the form/window slowed everything down. Even though I hadn't used it for anything. I'll work on the mp4 thing though.

Re: Would anyone be interested in an Origami Experience clone for XP?

Currently, I have it set up so if you click the windows media player control it will pause/unpause.

Would you guys want it so dragging the mouse on the video is the seek bar, and just leave the pause button and hardware button as the only pause buttons?

Or, I could have it so if you click the thumbnail in the corner while playing a movie, an iPod-like thumbwheel will pop up and you use that to seek. I've always wanted to use that to seek in a movie

Re: Would anyone be interested in an Origami Experience clone for XP?

I added the thumbwheel. Just click the thumbnail in the bottom left corner while playing a movie or music track. Then click the center of it to make it go away when you're done. The next version will make it go away automatically after a period of idleness

EDIT: Bah, forget to actually compile it before uploading. Will update in a sec.

EDIT 2: It now automatically hides after not being touched for 5 seconds

Re: Would anyone be interested in an Origami Experience clone for XP?

    Progress report:

-Connection status now shown. I do not have access to the wifi connection strength, but the wifi icon now shows if you are connected or not.

-Added a scroll bar which shows your position in the list

    -Fixed a couple bugs

-Clicking the battery icon gives more info on your battery life, and estimated time of battery death.

    Remaining:

    -Importing the WMP export.xml library
-The other photo transitions ( Mosaic, Kodak Moment)
-That pink border when viewing programs
    -Album/Folder art

    EDIT: http://rapidshare.com/files/46984147/XPerience.zip.html

    - Changed it so one revolution on the thumbwheel = 60 seconds of seek time

    - Changed it so if you were playing an audio file when you closed the program, it won't go into the Music section. It'll stay in what you have it set to start in. It'll still go to the video section if you were playing a movie though

-Fixed the clean dead files function to remove empty albums/artists/etc

Is the Misc Pack now included in the download, or should we refer to your last Misc Pack post for the most recent version?

It's not included or required. I won't be uploading the source code as often as the program. But yes, refer to the last version available.

The Mozaic photo transition is complete.

You have to click a shown section/picture to advance to the next picture.

I forgot I need to add a way to do this automatically after a delay. Add that onto my list. One thing off, one thing on, sigh...

Re: Would anyone be interested in an Origami Experience clone for XP?

I've been thinking, and I've decided to eventually make a program to make skin creation easier. You'd still have to make the BMP source on your own, but this will make it so you don't have to hand type an INI file like I did, plus some previewing options so you don't have to close/open the program like I do.

Granted this program would be used far less than OXP itself, but it'd be nice to see some skins not derivative of MS's.

But would anyone make a skin?

    Progress report:

I added an option to scan all the monitors folders for files. I have it scanning for audio and video only, as I've found including photos makes it take too long. To cancel the scan just click the X in the top right corner of the window that pops up. You can set it to do this everytime the program starts. These features are in the Library section of Settings.

I'm adding a section in Settings to add move genres and photo tags.

I tweaked a few behind the scenes things that should make photo mode more accepting of custom skins and fullscreen mode (when added). I had the Y coordinates and height data hardcoded rather than variables.

    Hi NeoTechni,

I have ben following your efforts for a while - must say you are investing a lot of time, respect!

Just out of curiosity: Would your clone work on a "standard" tablet PC running XP tablet edition or does it require the device to be a UMPC?
