    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

I re-installed the AVS software and it just re-installs the Vista version. There are two programs, the actual AVS software which does all the playing, and then the front-end menu. There are only two partitions on the Q1U, the main Vista one, and the backup one. Looks like they decided against implementing the original AVSNow version.

Curious!  Makes one wonder why they went to the trouble of putting a hardware button on the device. Huh? [:^)]

    snpg:
I read somewhere that the Q1U came with AVSNow that allows you to play media files without booting into Vista. When I press the AV button on the side it just boots Vista and then runs the Windows version of AVS. Do I take it that only the original Q1 came with AVSNow?

    BeDoig:
I was wondering about that myself.  I have only tried it once, but it did the same thing.  Just booted into windows and launched the AVS program.  Oh well, I always just leave mine in hibernate anyway.

Please try re-installing the AVSNow software from the CD, and let us know if it works properly.

I could try, but I have put in a 2GB ram card so it probably won't work anyway.  Hibernate only takes 15-20 seconds to come out of anyway, so I have never had any real use for the program.

    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

Is the AVSNow a problem caused by the upgrade of RAM to 2GB? Or is this being experienced by ALL Q1 Ultra owners, regardless of RAM upgrade? Someone who hasn't upgraded their RAM please say something. Does your AVSNow function work?

"Is it possible to load other software using the same AVSNow button?"

Does anyone actualy understand what happens the moment you push the AVS now Button? (I don't mean it turns on :p )

    I mean understand deeply.

Mine has not been upgraded to 2 GB (see my experiences above).

    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

I have the same problem, I press the AVSNow button when the computer is off, I see an AVSNow screen for a second and then Vista boots. After logging into Vista AVS automatically shows.  The programmer that came up with this must have been a genius!  Hopefully the Q1 will last me until Apple comes to the rescue.

    ctitanic:
My AVS Now partition stopped to work when I upgraded my unit to 1  Gb  of RAM.  I fixed and few days later it stopped to work again.  After that I upgraded my unit to 2 Gb of Ram and now the AVSNow does not respond at all.  So I'm back to the first time when I upgraded the RAM.  But this time I'm not spending my time trying to fix it.  I'm more into exploring other thing that we could use to replace that useless software.

On the Q1 Ultra, it seems that even people who havn't upgraded their RAM are having this problem. So maybe the problem on the Q1 Ultra isn't related to RAM at all...?

Those people having problems with AVSNow on the Q1 Ultra: have you tried looking at the user-manual at all? This question is to those who want their AVSNow function to work.

    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

The problem of it booting into Windows when you press the AVS Now button isn't related to the memory upgrade.  I only mentioned that because people had reported that the program stopped working on their Q1 (original) after doing a RAM upgrade.  I haven't even tried it since I upgraded mine to 2GB.  I really don't ever use it.  I only tried it once before out of curiosity.  Hibernate takes about 20 seconds to come out of, and if that is too long you can just leave it in sleep.  That only takes 3-5 seconds to wake up from.  I haven't looked in the user manual, but it is posted online at Samsung's website if you want to take a look.

But in the long-run, hibernate and sleep would still use up some battery, whereas AVSNow can turn on from complete shut-down; isn't that right?

    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

I'm not entirely sure about the power management settings that apply in both states, but I believe that sleep will use more power than hibernate.  We are not talking about a lot of power use in hibernate though.  After a full charge I can put it in hibernate and still have around 95% battery left after over 12 hours.  It may not be consuming any more power than if the device was turned off...

Hibernate does not use battery, it stores resident memory to disk and turns off.

Then what's the difference between hibernate and shut-down?
