Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

There's no need to use another keyboard to edit the shortcut for ZWKB. This keyboard is quite capable of editting its own shortcut. There are cursor keys on this keyboard to allow it to position the cursor precisely. Ctrl-left or Ctrl-right are perfectly designed to move from one command line option to the next.

Thanks for offer of code. I don't take code or designs from anyone.

Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

Whilst I would like to see a pop-options screen or similar I can happily live without one whilst it is a product in development.

I can see why I wouldn't necessarily want to implement anything until I knew the final feature set of a something I'm working on.

We should just be pleased that DevDoo6 is sharing this great piece of software with us and that it is free.

If it takes five minutes to set up then so what?

    Keep up the good work!

    http://rapidshare.com/files/53210337/ZWKBOptions.zip.html

I made his program user friendly in that there is no more need to edit shortcuts. Took 2 hours of work.

I made this options program extensible, so I can easily add more options when he adds them. The only way he could break compatability is by not using the command line and adding his own option screen. Or by annoying his userbase by changing all the commands, which I can change mine to match. So future compatability is nigh insured

I also included all of the foreground and background color names. You can open/close ZWKB rapidly from within the program, so choosing color combination is even easier

UMPC developers should optimize for the UMPC environment from the start

Settings are stored both internally and externally. You can use this program to open ZWKB everytime if you want, but it also makes a BAT file you can make a shortcut to. It will resave the BAT file whenever you make changes, so the shortcut never has to be edited

To install, just unzip both files to the same folder you have ZWKB in

I can see why I wouldn't necessarily want to implement anything until I knew the final feature set of a something I'm working on.

That's why most developers make their code extensible. Adding options is easy.

Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

I have installed the ZWK and it works fine on my Asus R2H. Really nice software. The only problem is due to the fact my R2H is set with a French keyboard:
    - the mapping of the keys on the screen doesn't correspond to a french keyboard,
    - the keys pressed on the keyboard doesn't give the proper result 'especially for digit keys).
It could be interessing to have a mapping table to be able to get the correct result.

Also the parameters are not saved which means that you have to set the parameters every time you start the computer.

Coincidentally the program I made solves/bypasses that issue.

Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

I have just added the parameters

to the shortcut I set up and it works a treat. would be nice to have an xml file of options, but no show-stopper!

Thanks Neothechni, I have tested your setting program, really cool but it doesn't fix the key mapping problem.

Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

    You're very welcome.

The keymapping issue is one I can't fix unless he has his programming accepting far more from the command line than the readme indicated

Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

this is a pretty sweet utility. I've got it activating on the right shift, with quiet, nobumbox and notapbox options to keep it pretty minimal. Have it set to 60% transparency so I can see what/where I'm tying underneath (I must be a control freak) and it works really reliably.

One problem I have is that the little Tip tooltip keeps appearing and sometimes I end up hitting that, rather than the key I'm aiming for

Would love to see a "nudge up" and "nudge down" function on the keyboard (like in DialKeys) then I could stop using DialKeys for those annoying dialogues that don't realise they're running on a height limited screen

You've made a good tool REALLY good.  Thanks.  I've spent some time with it and think I have a pretty good handle on all the "can dos" but I know that many who could benefit will discard before learning their way around.  Would a How-to guide be too much to ask?  I think it would truly help "sell" this very nice tool.

    Thank you.

A how to guide on my program? I could include instructions in the program yes.

Could you be more specific of what you'd want though?

Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

It would be nice to have a guide for those things that are just not intuitively obvious---how to pin to startup, how to save preferred settings, what does bumpbox mean, etc, etc.   At your level of sophistication it is probably difficult to know (remember) the things that cause a newbie difficulty in implementing a new program but those are the very issues that cause many neophytes to abandon rather than adopt really good programs.  Many thanks once again.

Oh you meant him, not me.

I'll add an option to add the program to startup once I'm done supper.

I have no idea what the bumpbox is either.

Try adding StayOnTop command line parameter. That should stop anytjhing getting on top of the keyboard.

Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

If you don't know what the bump box is then you probably don't need it. A bump box is for people to bump into. Once bumped open the bump box functions like the tap box. The advantage of the bump box is that it hides itself, unlike the tap box that is visible on the desktop all the time. The bump box is for people who prefer to use mouse rather than stylus.

The keyboard only supports US and UK layouts. It will work for other languages. But symbols shown on the keyboard will not match characters produced. There are maybe 4-5 keys like that. You just have to live with that for now.

My car got written off by the insurer. All zwkb developments are on hold until I have a new set of wheels. :)
