    Ive tried that inscribe and compared to zwb its awfull, if you use full screen with internet you have to get out of that just to use that keyboard everytime, very inconvenient, its now deleted and gone forever on my umpc.

    Great KYB interface. Have been testing the whole slew out there, on both TPC & UMPC. This is a keeper.

    Feature request:: on custom-configured size, need (top corner?) a move control so I can place where more convenient, depending on task-at-hand.

    Thanks again for great 'helper.'

    The keyboard is designed to be hiden away easily, so there should not be too much of a need to move it out of the way. But I will consider it as a feature in a future version.

    Oi. I could add it via my program. I could subclass the form, and listen for mouse down events.

    Come on, it's not hard to add a dragform api call to the mousedown event

    Thanks for the offer. I am not looking for any third party development at the moment.

    This is a puzzling problem. As I am unable to reproduce it, so there's no way to fix it.

    Ensure your windows is updated, and try reinstalling .Net.

    For the moment, all I can suggest is a quick way to kill the keyboard when it misbehaves. If the taskkill command is supported on your windows, you can create a shortcut of the following:

       taskkill /F /IM zwkb.exe

    This saves you the hassle of going to the task manager when the Exi key is displayed off-screen.

    I wouldn't worry about this bug, I get it too. For some reason my mobile home program will lose the ability to draw to the right half of the form after the computer comes out of standbye/hibernation.

    I also have no idea how to solve it as it seems more of a bug with Windows than our programs, as I'm just drawing to the form's hdc meaning windows is physically losing some of it.

    Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

    Thank you so much. I`ve just spent a little time tweaking the settings through shortcuts and now have a perfectly personally designed keyboard for typing on my Q1Ultra. I`m an ex Psion Netbook pro user who really valued the ability to type on a UMPC, I wasn`t looking forward to the constant reminder of how awful my handwriting is through the medium of `handwriting recognition`. Q1`s HWR is incredibily good, but it isn`t a patch on the speed that a touchtyper can reach. It`s taken me a little time to adjust to the 4 finger method, but I`m finding it incredibily easy now to reach speeds that make this particular software indispensible. Again, thank you so much for your fantastic software.

    Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

    Thanks for your interest in the keyboard. As a useful note to all new comers to the keyboard, you would get noticeably better usebility if you tap the on-screen keyboard using your nails. The existing generation of touch screens, at least on the Q1U, seem to be optimised for stylus contact, and full finger contact doesn't always register. To type using finger nails, you just need to curl your fingers inwards slightly more than you would when typing on a normal keyboard. I find the posture quite natural, and doesn't take much time to get used to.

    I recently let my little niece test the keyboard. After initially protested that she had no fingers nails to type with because she just had them cut, she then developed a method whereby she just flicked her fingers at the touch screen, ensuring what remained of her finger nails made contact with the screen, while the Q1U was standing at 45 degrees. The technique was both effective and amusing. That made me realise my curled finger typing was essentially a less exagerated form of the flick.

    Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

    Version 7.11.28 released.

    www.freshnet8.com

    Transparency

    The existing Transparency=nn% command line option has been renamed to TypingTransparency=nn%.

    A new InteractionTransparency=nn% command line option has been added to allow setting of a transparency level while the keyboard is used for interactions with other programs, where visual feed back is expected.

    The transparency scheme for the keyboard now works as follows:

    1. During typing of alphanumeric characters, the transparency defined by the TypingTransparency command line option is used.

    2. When keys such as the cursor keys, delete, backspace, return, function keys and some of the other keys are used for interactions with the environment or other programs, the transparency defined by InteractionTransparency is used.

    3. When the keyboard enters typematic mode, the transparency defined by the TypematicTransparency option is used.

    Switching of transparency levels occur automatically. If the effects are not desired, these can be disabled respectively using

       InteractionTransparency=0%

       TypematicTransparency=0%

    Suggestions

    For existing users of the keyboard, TypingTransparency can be set slightly lower than the level used currently (as defined by the existing Transparency option) so that the symbols on the keyboard are more visible for typing.

    The InteractionTransparency can be set to a level that makes objects behind the keyboard more visible whilest the keyboard remains reasonably visible so that the use of the interaction keys such as the cursor keys are not hindered.

    TypematicTransparency can be set as high as required since during typematic action the only thing that the keyboard can be used for is to stop the action. The visibility of the keyboard in this situation is less important and serves only to remind the user that the keyboard and its effect is active.

    Default Settings

    The default transparency settings are as follows:

       TypingTransparency=20%

       InteractionTransparency=40%

       TypematicTransparency=60%

    Custom transparency levels are effective when the following criteria are met:

       TypingTransparency < InteractionTransparency < TypematicTransparency

    Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

    It's another virtual on-screen keyboard. Not free but ideal for Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC).

    Ick, I take back what I said about ZWK being somewhat unuser friendly. Those look horrible.

    And better ones come free with XP.

    The newer version of zwkb has only once in a couple hundred openings done the half size thing on my everun, so no complaints, thanks devdoo6

    Re: Free Keyboard for UMPC and Tablet PC's

    Hey Devdoo6:
    I love the ZWKB. I have a Q1 Ultra which also has Ubuntu installed by using Wubi. So, it's dual boot. I tweaked the screen resolution to 1024x600, got touch working perfectly, installed a Novatel U720 Sprint broadband modem in the internal minipci slot  - it works in both windows and Linux. So, in Linux, it's a hot little device. The only thing lacking is ZWKB. How about a Linux version?

    Thanks
