    Re: Origami™ Experience 2.0!

Winfuture (german news page) has an article about Origami Experience 2.0 with some more information: http://winfuture.de/news,36787.html

It should be available in the coming months, pre-installed on all new UMPCs and according to Winfuture the people on the booth said existing UMPCs can be upgraded. Another interesting info is that the new version should also work on Windows XP.

Also according to them Origami Experience 2.0 always runs in the background an can be actived any-time through an icon on the edge of the screen.

    I want it now :)

    Re: Origami™ Experience 2.0!

    On a related note.

Does anybody know how to disable Origami Experience?

Namely, my R2H has a hardware button that starts it. I would rather link this button to something else. The way it is now, I use to press this button accidentally, and, when Origami starts (which I DO NOT want), it also kills already running Windows Media Player.

    Re: Origami™ Experience 2.0!

I got to play with 2.0 at CES and it does look nice. I liked the RSS reader and how they made IE easier to use.

The guy in the booth told me it will be avaible for existing UMPC users soon (a free download)

    Re: Origami™ Experience 2.0!

Yea, soon, I hate "soon" that normally means sometime in the next few monthes with most software companies. Just like the e-reader for umpc's.. took monthes. I really would like dedicated dates on this stuff...

The dedicated button simply starts an executable. (Don't have my R2H at hand, but it's called something like touchpack.exe) You can replace that executable with any executable of your liking. I replaced it with a small executable that does a Shift-Alt-Tab (created using AutoHotkey). So I now have a dedicated task-switching button. (perfect for in-car use...)

    Cheers! Stefan.

    Re: Origami™ Experience 2.0!

    Stefan, PLEASE, give me details.

Call me stupid, but I could not find out HOW to change the configuration. I guess you do not suggest replacing REAL touchpack.exe with any other - renamed - exe, or do you?

I do not want to uninstall Origami, I only want to start it when I DO want to start it, not "accidentally".

    Thanks

    Re: Origami™ Experience 2.0!

Unfortunately, OE 2.0 looks like it won't be out for a while.  From MS' site:

"Scheduled to be available in mid 2008, Origami Experience 2.0 is a suite of software, specifically designed for the ultra-mobile PC..."

See, once again, another thing that will take too long... I'm starting to hate tech previews, wet your mouth and  leave ya hungry every time.

Replacing the real executable is exactly what I did. (Haven't checked yet whether it's touchpack.exe or another executable). If I want to start OE, I can just start the original executable. (just rename it to something else)
If you want to start OE using the button, you can use AutoHotkey to create a program that waits a few seconds for you to press a key and does nothing if you don't press a key. That way you can start OE by pressing the dedicated button, followed by , e.g., the return key.

    Cheers! Stefan.

Well, lets see, this thread was mildly hijacked, and I'm still trying to figure out if anyone is every gonna release this, hey Origami Team, any leads onto what companies will be releasing this product upgrade?

    Re: Origami™ Experience 2.0!

The current Origami Experience is available for download straight from MS. I would expect that OX2 will be as well, but I would like to think we'll have an announcement.

I'm itching for it, too... I'm really looking forward to the Picture Password...
