Re: Q1 Ultra Premium, 1.33GHz Core Solo

    Hello,

It doesn't look like much more information has been released, but does anyone out there have a reasonable guess when these new units will hit the market? I'm planning on getting the Q1U-V for xmas, but if the 1.33GHz will be out within a couple of months, and provide a significant performance boost (with marginal increase in cost), then I may be better off waiting.

What do you all think? Will jumping to the new 1.33GHz be big jump in performance, and worth waiting? I'm guessing this unit will have a new 400 nit screen too, which is just a little important (nice to have)... I won't be surprised to see it a ~$200 more though; think thats a decent guestimate?

    Thanks!

I know CES isn't until next week, but are there any updates on this yet?  I love my Q1U for the most part, but I'll probably be first in line to buy a Premium when it comes out.  That is, as long as the price isn't ridiculous.

Just when I thought my Q1U would be futureproofe'd for at least 6 months, bam, they announce the same thing with a better processor! I guess we'll never be able to enjoy the feeling of having the top of the line product with all the bells and whistles from any company for very long.

This is so true, I think 3 months is the limit now!

Thats make me angry and sad, becouse im sure samsung know about the future Products, and they sell a UMPC as a new one with the best CPU and all the best, but they know in 2 month comes a better ones and the silly people, who buys the first one, tries to sell this that they can buy the newer one !!!

I guess "better" is a relative term here. That extra oopmh must come from somewhere. It will be at the expense of heat, battery life (or weight) and noise.

Whilst I can understand it being a good upgrade for some people, it isn't going to replace the "non premium" version for many.

Re: Q1 Ultra Premium, 1.33GHz Core Solo

If you are angry, try my 2X rule. Then you will never be angry again. If you upgrade only when what you are upgrading to is 2 times or better than what you had, then it's difficult to be disappointed by what you end up with.

Samsung has 5 to 10 years to come up with my next Q1U that should have majority of the following:

      Dual Core
      10 hours extended battery life
      Half the weight
      Half the bevel space
      Half the heat
      Half the noise
      120GB+ hard drive
2x screen brightness (not required but won't complain if it's really that bright)
      2x louder speaker
      2x better camera resolution
      Better screen resolution (not essential)
2x better other stuff I have yet to come up with
NO clown-sized, touch typable, pocketable keyboard bolted on (very very important)

The Q1U Premium comes up short against my requirements. Samsung has to work harder for my money.

Nobody seems to be talking about this now, so I guess not many are planning on upgrading to this.

I am getting one, should receive mine in a week or two, I'll post on my initial impressions once I receive it.

    Where are you getting yours?

My sources say that it won't be available in the US until March. In March they should have a model with the Core Solo processor and HSDPA internal.

Re: Q1 Ultra Premium, 1.33GHz Core Solo

Well the new Q1 has arrived and I have to say I am very pleased.

The unit appears to be very responsive I never owned a Q1-U 800Mhz version but did have an opportunity to play with one.

Comparing that to the Q1 Ultra Premium at least to me there appears to be a significant speed improvement I have a piece of software that does RF propagation analysis that choked on the Q1U but ran well on the Q1U Premium.

The unit is a bit heavier but still quite comfortable to hold for long periods. I like the improved keyboard while still not something I will use much at least now it is usable where it really was not before.

The battery life seems very good I used it heavily today and did not run out of battery.

If I can answer any questions for anyone let me know.
