UMPC as an input tablet for desktop

When I am not on the road, I would like to use my UMPC (Samsung Q1) as an input tablet for my desktop, similar to the way the Wacom Cintiq (http://www.wacom.com/cintiq/12WX.cfm) works.  I have tried a couple of screen sharing applications but they don't work with the pen input.  Anybody know of anything out there that would work like that.  I think an IP based solution would be the way to go.

I would like to be able to sketch in Illustrator, photoshop and write notes directly into OneNote on my Desktop and basically use all its horsepower and just let the q1 use its resources to be the tablet.

I once with XP got Pen input working with 'remote assistant'.

But I doubt you will not get the same experience with a UMPC as with a tablet.

I am running Vista on both the desktop and UMPC, remote desktop blanks out the screen on the desktop when I connect with the UMPC.  In XP (if I remember right) there was an option to allow both screens to be viewable so admins/helpdesk could use it for troubleshooting or training.

not what I am looking for.

Ideally, I would want OneNote up on my desktop, a call comes in, I grab my UMPC click an icon, and the desktop OneNote would be mirrored on my umpc, which I write on and take notes during the phone call, I hang up and and then go back to working on my desktop where the written notes are there on the desktop screen.

Later if I need to do some Illustrator work, I open Illustrator on the desktop, click the icon again on the UMPC and see the Illustrator drawing window, work on my sketch on the UMPC while using the CPU of the desktop for actually running Illustrator.

I agree with healthstatus, looking for the same functionality.  It would be helpful in many scenarios to switch between using the umpc, and then using it as an input device to a desktop.

I think if MS had an application that would do this, it would open up a whole new category of buyers for both UMPC and Tablet PCs.  This would be so much better than the Cintiq, you could buy a sub $1000 unit and get visual tablet input abilities to a PC when tethered or unplug it and have an intelligent unit.

Which VNC?  I am running Vista on both machines and the MS Remote Desktop Connection will not allow me to ink on the Q1 while I am connected to the desktop session.

Interesting, but screen shots don't help me do what I want.

Do not use remote desktop.  Just run a VNC server on the desktop.  Then install VNC on the UMPC, and from the UMPC connect to the VNC server running on the desktop. You won't lose control of the desktop and the desktop's screen will show on the UMPC.  The major downside is that your UMPC will likely have a much smaller field of view.  You also won't get pen like fidelity as the desktop will just be getting mouse inputs.

This is why I am wanting an application to do this, because I want the UMPC to work like a graphics tablet, not a mouse.

Unfortunately, I think VNC is the closest you're going to get.  I don't think there's much of a market for anyone to write device driver that will make a touchscreen on a separate tablet PC appear to the desktop OS as a locally installed tabet input device.  Your scenario makes sense to you since you already have a tablet and another windows system.  But as a sellable solution, it's just too expensive.  It's much cheaper for your average joe to just by a wacom (or other vendor's) tablet peripheral and stay tethered to the local PC.....although, with the number of wireless presentation devices on the market these days and with the popularity of mobile touch screen devices, I wouldn't be surprised in the coming years to see someone develop a dedicated wifi/bluetooth tablet for presenters or an application for iphones or touchscreen smartphones that'll do what you want....but probably not a general purpose driver for XP/Vista-to-XP'/Vista use.
