Touch screen calibration on a Q1U with fresh Vista install

    hi,

Question: I have upgraded my Q1U from XP Tablet to Vista home premium and now the touchscreen works but cannot be calibrated. Windows sees it as not a touchscreen (or tablet for that matter). How do you get this working? Drivers, hacks or software?

I have been digging through the posts and endless web searches but thought maybe I'd create one by asking a question which would contain a one stop answer to a question lots have asked and will ask because the problem happens. Also Kevin is around these boards so will be a great help (also lots of others I know too :)).

I used a Samsung Vista disk, and also the drivers and software disk but it didn't work. The stylus is registered by the touchscreen but the pointer is a cm off.

Is there a simple step by step? Does it take a rocket scientist?

I believe the trick to fix this is to lower the resolution down to 800x600 run the calibration, then reboot, then set it back to 1024x600 and run the calibration again, and then reboot. Sometimes the calibration does not take effect until you reboot.

i think you misunderstood. the sammy doesnt appear to be a tablet to vista. when i try to start calibration it says it has no touchscreen. i trtied the driver install and that didnt work either. it sees the screen as a generic pnp monitor. vista is doing 63 updates but after that i`ll do some more searching.

Ah yes sorry, have you installed the latest bios and chipset drivers from the samsung website, there is also a couple calibration downloads from samsung, but I'm not sure if these will work if touchscreen is not working...

Create a short cut with this command line

    tabcal lincal novalidate

    And try it.

Re: Touch screen calibration on a Q1U with fresh Vista install

Hi, thanks. I installed a touchkit driver I found on a website from egalax i think who make the touchscreen i guess. Now the tablet features of vista appear but if i fire up ther touchkit application it doesn't show up the HID device so it's almost as if it can't see it although windows can ?
I have the shortcut from a usbmini download but haven't run it yet. I still have a HID device appearing under mice even though there's now a hid device under hid devices. Could they be clashing?

Re: Touch screen calibration on a Q1U with fresh Vista install

    This is murder.

I'm almost ready to bail on vista and go back to XP tablet. Everything worked out of the box with XP and even though I like the extra handwriting stuff in vista I can certainly get by with ritepen in XP. I need the inking ability so the touchscreen is an absolute must for me.

I have touchkit installed and it shows up under HID devices. I also have a HID device under mouse and for the life of me I can't update it to citanics usbmini. Windows just flat refuses to install it over it's driver. So I might have one last attempt to remove the touchkit and run the shortcut and if it fails then so have I and I'm off to upgrade to XP. Lucky I took a full acronis backup before mucking around :)
