Vista RC2 on the Samsung Q1 - video

Wanted to share the 40 minute video we just put together yesterday. I've spent a number of hours tweaking the RC2 with drivers and software to the point where just about everything is fully functioning on the Q1. Of course, WMDC didn't work in the video....what can you do....darn actors!

    Here's what I covered:

    • Vista startup with sound and touchscreen (with some workarounds)
    • Quick overview of the system tray icons
    • Screen calibration
    • Native TIP and the floating tip
    • Vista search and Start
    • New York Times Reader
    • Windows Journal
    • Windows Media Center for audio, games and video
    • Windows Mobile Device Center and PDANet; didn't work this time...that's the nature of doing a video I guess! ;)
    • Speech Recognition demo
    • Standby and Resume time
    • Oops! I almost forgot the Screen Rotation and Screen Resolution switcher!

Re: Vista RC2 on the Samsung Q1 - video

Oh great thanks for making a post.  This is Rodney from your comments.

What's the version of your Intel Graphics driver?
    I just installed version 6.14.10.4704
I cannot switch to any other resolution besides 640x480 & 800x480.

It seems as though the resolution switcher from the display manager is working but it won't switch to 800x600 or 1024x600 since those options aren't in the display settings.

The monitor shows up as 'Generic PnP Monitor'

    Thanks.

Re: Vista RC2 on the Samsung Q1 - video

Nice video, well done. At MS we've obviously been getting Windows Vista on our UMPCs as well. Hopefully we'll have some of the updated Samsung applications for Windows Vista soon. Right now, things like the ability to edit Magic Keyboard button mapping breaks for example. Also, because the Samsung Q1 doesn't have some required firmware for HID digitizers you don't get the floating TIP, Touch Pointer, etc. I've really come to like running the Windows Vista OS on it though, it's actually kind of painful to go back to XP once you get use to it! :)

Any luck with the launcher and touch pack on Vista?

I'll be wanting to try to put Vista on my Q1b once i finally get a hold of it.

    Is this fixable?

Yes if Samsung chooses to fix it.

Or if Microsoft puts some pressure on Samsung to fix it.

When he is talking about firmware. he is talking about a Bios update, no?  But after that we are going to need the HID divers...

Re: Vista RC2 on the Samsung Q1 - video

I have Vista working on my Q1 with the latest Intel drivers, but I still cant get the resolution switching to work. Anyone figure this out yet?

Media Center rocks on the Q1, Softsled would make it perfect.

That's a good News.  Could you post the link to those Intel Drivers?

Re: Vista RC2 on the Samsung Q1 - video

I think I have two links there (one may be wrong, but that is how I got to the 910/915) , the direct download points to the correct file. As long as you get the 910/915 driver you're golden.

Re: Vista RC2 on the Samsung Q1 - video

    Hi,

I'm new around here. Recently aquired my Samsung Q1. I've got Windows Vista Business running smoothly, and 99% of the drivers are working.

However, I can not get the screen resolution changer to work. Same problem as Rodfather was facing in this thread.

Could someone provide a step by step guide to simply getting the resolution changer to work please? I've tried the latest intel drivers, aswell as the latest drivers from the samsung support base.

I cant live without the resolution changer. Else wise, it's a perfect system and I wont be going back to XP.... HELP!!!

P.S. - Also having a problem with the battery manager starting at start up.. Any ideas? I'll elaborate on this problem another time. My main concern is the res. switcher.
