    Asus R2H with Vista rtm

All but fingerprint scanner working fine...

    Update: Fingerprint scanner works fine.

Asus R2H seems to be only Origami UMPC with all Vista features working, both Tablet PC and Media features are working fine.

Be ready to download your copy of Vista 01.30.07

    Vista Download link here

I haven't got time to test all the softwares and utilities but I think it's fair to name it as a first Vistagami!

    Just waiting Origami Experience™.......

Update:  5min video of R2H with Vista Ultimate

Update: 2 min play with R2H with Vista

Great to hear about that. I'm really looking forward to Vista on my R2H.

I already ordered the Windows Vista Business Edition from the Windows Vista Upgrade Program, let's see when they start to ship it Smile [:)]

Re: Asus R2H with Vista rtm

    JKK,

Can you list the steps on how you got everything working? The following things don't work for me:

GPS (I copied over device_switch.exe , but it says that no device can be powered off when I try to use it)

R2H hardware buttons (the bottom left and bottom right buttons, which was used for the resolution switcher no longer work. The wireless button on top to enable/ disable wireless/bluetooth no longer work. The hold key doesn't disable the touch screen)

No way to disable wireless/ bluetooth

Windows mobility center doesn't list brightness controls, wireless, etc.

Wireless/bluetooth lights at bottom right don't work

Dialkeys (this isn't a problem with the R2H , but Vista doesn't support dailkeys)

That's all that I've been able to find with my limited testing. Any help Would be very much appreciated.

One of the guys on the Vista Coach had DialKeys working on his Q1, so there's hope.

Re: Asus R2H with Vista rtm

I try to put up the whole installation soon.

Try first disabling Windows Defender, should work for Asus SettingPage and buttons...

... asus will be releasing drivers and sw for vista soon anyway.

Was there any offical word from ASUS about drivers for vista? I would pretty much welcome it, but for my ASUS Notebook they never released never drivers - on their homepage they still only offer the drivers which were also bundled with the Notebook...

Re: Asus R2H with Vista rtm

Now that I also use the R2H in my car (Pictures: http://jcdenton2002.spaces.live.com/) I don't know if I should upgrade to Vista, because I don't know if I can still use the GPS-Receiver.

JKK, have you tried out the GPS-Receiver? That's the only thing that currently keeps me from upgrading to Vista...

    Hi J.C.

Have a R2h too and I saw your pictures of the R2H in your car...What do you use in your car in order to fit the R2H ????

I tested the R2H but put on my dashboard....not really stable...but with a good reception for the satellites.

    Thanks

Re: Asus R2H with Vista rtm

I ordered the clip and mount from http://www.proclipusa.com/

I'm glad they had a Vehicle Mount especially for my car - the mount fits into the holes on top (and at the bottom) of the air vents. On their webpage you can select your car and get a mount that fits perfectly.

To hold the R2H I used the "Vehicle Mount Adapter for Tablet Devices" (On the ProClip Page under "Mounting Options" Item No. 215159)

Re: Asus R2H with Vista rtm

I read on the ProClip website that the tablet device adapter uses adhesive tape to attach the device to the mount. Is that what you use? I would be really hesitant to stick my R2H to a mount using adhesive tape, especially since the battery can get warm melting the adhesive...

    Cheers! Stefan.

Re: Asus R2H with Vista rtm

Yes, that's right, the adapter uses adhesive tape to attach the device to the mount.

While the device itself is getting warm while you use it, I haven't experienced that the battery is getting too warm.

I also bought the extended battery pack, so I could remove the stand which was built into the standard battery as I only use the extended battery pack outside of the car.

I have used the R2H in my car for the last 4 days and didn't had any problems - and I hope the adhesive won't melt.

Re: Asus R2H with Vista rtm

Sorry to bring up this thread again.

I also installed Vista on my R2H but I wasn't able to get a fully functional device (like JKK did)
I just hope ASUS will release drivers for Vista soon or maybe a guide how to install all the applications that were included with XP Tablet PC Edition 05.

I haven't tried out the GPS-Receiver, but GPS_Switch.exe seems to work and activate the GPS.

I posted more details about Vista on the R2H here: http://jcdenton2002.spaces.live.com/

Re: Asus R2H with Vista rtm

Just run the (XP) installs (like for the security identity software) the latest downloads of ASUS contain a Vista version it looks like (upgrading will not activate that)

I think I 'll have a try at the GPS later.

And I noticed that Vista by itself does not re-activate the wireless when resuming from hibernate (might have to do with that its a USB device?)

Re: Asus R2H with Vista rtm

I still wasn't able to install the ASUS Security Center on my R2H. The installation worked fine but Vista won't show the login-screen anymore (black screen instead). As you don't have that problem I guess this might be related to the german version I'm using.

The finger-print-scanner isn't the biggest problem I have as it only allows me to logon faster. Every third or forth time I switch on the R2H it freezes after showing the desktop. Once all the startup-programs are loaded Vista is running fine.

Finally my Wireless-LAN-Connection is working every time (by installing the Wireless Console 2 Application for Vista from the ASUS V1Jp Download-Page)

Unfortunately the R2H Hardware-Buttons still won't work (even if the Windows Defender is completely disabled) - to use the Wireless Console GUI I have to double-tap the symbol in the task-tray. I especially miss the function to change the brightness.

Have you guys checked the shipping date on the moduslink website? Today there was finally shipping date information available for the 2 update copies I have ordered (from Compaq laptops purchase). Unfortunately one is for March and the other for April.. So I guess I will be a while without Vista :-/

I was wondering what is the shipping date for the requests made for Asus R2H windows upgrade. I'm mainly interested in the drivers since I did not qualify for the free upgrade. I bought my R2H on October 25th.. One day before the beggining of the eligibility period :(

    Thanks,

    Michael Enders
