Hi,

Finally sorted out Vista on my Q1 and it is running very nicely.

I did a clean install, by partitioning my disk, so I could dual boot the system.

XP and Vista work fine, but now when I try and boot to AVS it hangs when the progress bar at the bottom of the screen reaches 100%.

Any ideas how to make this work? Had the Vista install screwed it up or is this just a coincidence?

I have not checked my AVS partition, but if I find that it does not work anymore I will probably delete this partition to get that space back.

I never used AVSNOW or AVS Premium before but I just checked and here was my result (using a self updated to Vista Q1P):

1. AVS Premium AND Windows Media Player wouldn't play any music. Windows sounds worked. Uninstalled and reinstalled sound driver and now Windows Media Player works fine. However AVS premium does not. Everytime I choose play it switches to "Stop". Cannot figure it out.

2. So I tried to boot into AVSNOW and it keeps booting into Vista instead. The AVSNOW logo comes up but next thing I know I get Vista. I hit F8 as some had suggested but I get the Vista boot menu not a AVSNOW menu.

I don't really care about AVS premium I have lots of programs to use once I'm in Windows, but I do like the idea of a quick non-Windows player so I'd love to get AVSNOW working. Any Q1 not-preinstalled Vista owners got it working? Does the pre-installed Vista Q1 even have AVSNOW anymore?

To boot in the AVS partition you need to turn off your device. If you try to log in the AVS partition from an hibernated unit it will go to Vista partition instead of the AVS Now partition.

GrooveDirk, I agree with you. I like the idea of a fast booting media player option.

I don't think your trouble inside Windows is related. AVSNOW is on a completely seperate partition and both Media player and AVS premium still worked for me in XP after the installation of Vista. If you upgraded your XP to Vista then problems are possible (even likely?!), but again should bear nothing on the AVSNOW problem.

Vista adds some boot partition stuff and that is clearly what is screwing up AVSNOW. Sadly I don't know enough about Vista or partitions to know how to solve that problem!

I have not used that partition in a long time so... But it makes sence what you said. Vista change the boot and probably that´s why that partition is not working now. One thing that you can try is to restore the AVSNow partition from the CD.

It's a risk I can take, once installing Vista doesn't require as much messing. Which I hear may be very soon....

Solved it!

It seems people had this problem when upgrading to 1Gb RAM too.

The jkOnTheRun method required a full reinstall of everything, and we've no guarantee that would work in this case with Vista. Luckily I found some more info and used that to fix it.

You will need a USB keyboard attached to your Q1.

Boot into AVS mode (make sure you have turned off from your last use of the Q1, nt hibernated).

After the AVS logo screen you get a screen with the progress bar filling along the bottom. Whilst on this screen press F8 and you will be presented with two options, 1 is to continue and 2 is to delete stored settings.

Choose 2 and continue.

You should now have AVSNow back!

BTW  I did not notice any changes in my fan while running divx.

Was your fan running at all? I'm hoping the celeron runs cooler than the pentium...

We should be able to run with no fan, but i fear that may not be the case unless i can find a way to control the fan.
