Finally! HID Support for Q1 Upgraded to Vista.

First of all, I would like to thank eGalax (EETI) for allowing me to help them beta testing this driver. Believe it or not, these guys have not received yet a Q1 to work in this project. This tells me the poor interest of Samsung to have you guys installing Vista in your devices. I would like also to thank EETI for allowing me to release this beta driver. They are going to release an official package with more options and functions soon, but in the meantime we can enjoy HID support using this beta.

Second of all, I TOLD YOU!!! WITH OR WITHOUT MICROSOFT OR SAMSUNG HELP! (Thanks God I do not have any NDA with any of these two companies!)

Enough, the driver can be downloaded here. I included a readme.txt file with instructions, please follow them. Remember, this is a "AS IS" release, and even when I can guarantee that it works you ARE ON YOUR OWN. Do not count on Samsung for help (these guys are busy making money) and do not bother EETI either (these guys are really busy doing a good job).

Note: This driver has been tested in a Q1 upgraded with Vista. I do not if this driver will work in a Q1 with XP. So... There is only one way to know: test it yourself.

    Marvellous!

Well don eFrank, for all your efforts, and eGalax, for coming through with the goods.

I'll have a play soon. I'm sure this will make quite a bit of difference.

(So we can remove the vbs script, float tip and the registry hacks now?)

Oh, one important note. I got a confirmation that the driver works in XP units too!

The short cut included in my zip file does not work in that OS. Intead you have to create your own short cut pointing to tabcal.exe lincal novalidate

    Fantastic!

Now can I get you interested enough in my fan noise problem? As I need someone who can understand the ACPI stuff in Notebook Hardware Control to creat a Q1 profile. It's a bit beyond me! Wink [;)]

The major problem is that I´m not using that tool any more. I´m using... I forgot the name now, it´s something with Hardwar Clock... I can´t remember it now.

    Maybe I should try that?

Unfortunately that doesn't give me enough of a name to search on.

Re: Finally! HID Support for Q1 Upgraded to Vista.

    Wow! I'm in Tears...

In fact I just got my Q1P from eBay YESTERDAY, the day before this new HID driver is posted here. It came with XP, I tried installing Vista. Everything worked perfectly after installing the Vista Drivers from http://psybertech.net/Q1Files/ , except the touchscreen is out of alignment and I could not calibrate it.

I was gonna sadly go back to XP just because the touchscreen could not be calibrated. I went to sleep, thinking I'll do the re-installation tomorrow. The next morning I wake up, did a final search, and found this.

It worked. My screen is perfectly aligned... Thanks!! Thank you!

Re: Finally! HID Support for Q1 Upgraded to Vista.

    Hi

First of all - yippee and thanks so much for pushing this!

But arrggghh! I knew I would have issues! All went OK until part 4 then all went pear-shaped. Drivers installed, touchkit uninstalled but no touch!

I'll watch developments to see where I went wrong, if others suffer or for a release.

    However, big thanks!

    John

Re: Finally! HID Support for Q1 Upgraded to Vista.

    Good job Frank!

Now would there be a benefit in using this driver on XP on a TK eo i72xx?  I know when JKK was on XP, he uninstalled touchkit and the generic HID drivers would work until he did a standby or hibernate.  Would using these instead of the generic XP HID drivers possibly improve things?  I'm not in a position to try it just yet...if you think it's viable  I'l try it in about a week after I get a big project I'm working on wrapped up.

John, If you don't get touch that means that the drivers are not installed. Keep trying. Be sure that you are installing the right driver verifying the Hardware ID.

The 7210 as far as I know use a serial touch screen from eGalax and the Q1 use a USB touch screen. This means that probably this driver will not work in the 7210. But I could be wrong. The only way to know is testing it!

Re: Finally! HID Support for Q1 Upgraded to Vista.

Is there any reason those of us with Q1P's Vista pre-installed would want to install this driver?

It's hard for me to tell. As far as I know you have HID support thanks to some tricks done between Samsung and MS. This driver comes from the maker of your touchscreen. One thing that it's different is the way that this driver handle the power management. If you check in the properties of this driver in the Device Manager, there you will see a Power Tab that it's not present in Microsoft Driver.
