    AVSNow and Q1U

I read somewhere that the Q1U came with AVSNow that allows you to play media files without booting into Vista.

When I press the AV button on the side it just boots Vista and then runs the Windows version of AVS.

Do I take it that only the original Q1 came with AVSNow?

    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

I was wondering about that myself.  I have only tried it once, but it did the same thing.  Just booted into windows and launched the AVS program.  Oh well, I always just leave mine in hibernate anyway.

that happens if you are coming back from hibernation. Turn off your device and tried the AVS Now switch again.

    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

Nope! When I push the AVS button I get a very brief AVS splash screen, but it then boots up Vista before launching AVS. We seem to have AVS-Later!!

This is very disappointing to hear.

Does the AVSNow feature actually work on anybody's Q1 Ultra?

    Re: AVSNow and Q1U

I'll say it again. If you try to log in AVS Now  coming from Hibernation you will log back to Vista and open the AVS Software.

To log in the AVS Now  partition you have to turn off  your device and then turn it on but moving the switch toward the AVSNow side.

oh ok. Can somebody with a Q1 Ultra please confirm that this is the case?

Do not be disappointed.  The AVSNow  never has worked properly in any of the Q1 versions.  It's a waste of hard drive.

I'm waiting for the SSD version of the Q1 Ultra to be released, preferrably with 64GB disk-space. As soon as I get an opportunity to pre-order one in the UK, I'll go for it : )

This is even more disappointing to hear! Can someone with an original Q1 also confirm that this is the case? : |

I DID turn off the Q1u before pushing the AVS button!  However, I don't know what switch you're talking about.  The only switch near the AVS button is the on/off switch and there are two settings: "Turn on" and "hold".  No buttons will work with it in the latter position.  I don't have any switches for AVS;  only the button on the left side.

EDIT: I just looked at the original Q1 manual and it has a completely different setup for turning on AVS compared to the Q1u.  AVS on the Q1 is turned on by using the "on" switch - pushing it the opposite direction from "on."

OK, in the old Q1, the on/off switch has 3 positions. the switch stays always in the middle. if you push it to the right it opens Vista or XP. If you push it to your left it opens the AVSNow partition.  the log on time into that partition is around 20 seconds.

To log on into AVSNow you have to from Windows Vista or XP, turn off your UMPC and then using the on/off switch you  push it to your left and log into AVSNow.    If you go to hibernation and you try to turn on your Q1 in AVS Now what happens is that your device will boot into Windows and after 2 minutes logging it will open the AVS Software suite.
