10 Things I don't like about the Tablet Kiosk EO

Just thought I would give my opinion on the Tablet Kiosk EO since
the Q1 had its day here :)

10 Things I don't like about the TabletKiosk EO

    16)
    No onboard 3G wireless

    15)
lackluster WiFi card, needs to be Atheros A/B/G 5006XS

    14)
Screen resolution sucks(for all UMPC's) This has to be changed with future UMPC's
1024x600 has to be the minium resolution(would be nice to keep wide screen mode so
    800x600 is out)

    13)
Dial Keys unusable @ 120 gram

    12)
Onboard SPDIF but no optical or coaxial digital out

    11)
Onboard LAN but no LAN jack onbard

    10)
No internal Mic(Q1 Twin Mic's Rock for VOIP)

    9)
    left hand way too hot

    8)
front buttons pretty crystal but not backlit

    7)
    mono tiny tinney speaker

    6)
    no expansion card slot

    5)
    no lanyard slot

    4)
    cheesey yellow bag

    3)
screen not as clear as Q1(is this just me?)

    2)
    crappy bluetooth stack

    1)
    No accessories helooooo?

Gee was that more than 10? oops, I still like lots of things about the EO,

    What I do like

Huge 160 Gig HD capicity, Standard off the shelf 2.5" IDE
Cake to upgrade RAM and HD(should not void warranty though)
    case styling
    track point is great
    lots of fully programable buttons
    headphone w/ mic jack
simple stylus/stand solution (Q1 stands are still the best design)
Tablet Kiosk stepping up to fix Major issues
Standard DC jack type and easy to find extra AC and DC car adapters($20 for the car adapter :)
You can write in one note or journal without palm traces

Just my 2 cents having owned both units and doing side by side comparisons.
If anyone has any specific questions about either unit feel free to post, I would be happy to try to answer any comparison questions.

Re: 10 Things I don't like about the Tablet Kiosk EO

16 - According to what I know, if you include a SIM card slot in these devices they become property of the phone company that gives the sim card. In another words, TabletKiosk wont be able to sell the unit unless they enter in business with one of the phone providers here in USA. So, I would prefer not to have that integrated and have a card-adapter to add this capability.

15 - I do not see anything wrong with current WiFi included.... Probably out there you will find better options but that will increase the price of these units and what everybody is trying is to make them cheaper.

14- Agree, but like you said this is something that MS need to work with. The 800x480 is not a good resolution but in another hand, this screen shape is mass produced (almost all DVD Players use this screen) at this moment so it's cheaper. A screen of 800x600 is not produced with 7 inches size so start to mass produce this one would cost a lot more. So once again.... They were trying to get it cheaper.

13- I agree.... But... when you use a 80gs inking is not that easy, you will get errors all the time from having your hand touching the screen. So you have to enter in a compromise between good inking experience in a touch screen or good touching experience and learn how to write no touching the screen. To use the dialkey in the eo you need to press harder or just use your nails.

12 and 11 - I'm not sure about 12 but 11 is going to be present in the cradle. The cradle does not have a NIC card, it just use the one onboard of the eo. This is something that can be see in other devices and is done to safe space in the main unit.

    10 - Agree.

    9- Agree

    8- Waste of Battery

7- No mater what speakers you put integrated they wont sound as good (due to the size) as any external speaker so I think that is a waste of space.

    6- Agree

    5- a case is  a better option

    4- agree

3- Somebody already mentioned, it's the same screen

2- Probably with good software you will be pleased. But so fat I do not have any problem in this point with what is there installed and I use it often to connect my eo to my 2125 to go to internet.

    1- 100 % Agree.

I think the screen quality issue is related to the digitizer, the one on the Q1 seems to be much more transparent than the EO, also if they use the exact same screen you

would think that the horizontal and vertical viewing angles would be pretty close to identical, they are completely different, you can view the Q1 along the vertical plane and it is very clear, but the EO is not this way, it could be due to the different digitizers, do color LCD's still use polarizing filters?

I thought the Q1 uses a touchscreen, not a digitizer?

Alot of people use terms like that loosely.

Why on earth would you want to hang a UMPC from your neck? While it is much smaller and ligher than your typical PC it bis still alot blucker and heaveyer than your advrage MP3 player which you might hang on your neck.

I agree. dangling 2 pounds of Computer around your neck
might be entertaining or fun for about 5 minutes. Unless
you're a neck-bodybuilder you would get pretty bad cramps
and it would be simply annoying. If you want to use it like
an mp3 player, fire up your bluetooth headset and forget
the weight in your carrying bag.

Re: 10 Things I don't like about the Tablet Kiosk EO

You guys are not getting it, think of climbing a rock wall with no saftey line, you fall you die

Same with the Q1, you drop it it dies, with the wrist strap if I drop it its a safety line so it doesnt hit the pavement.

My wrist strap has saved me before on other devices.
